Artefacts and photographs from the excavation of the 17th-century wreck of the London will be displayed from 17 November to 11 December at the School of Advanced Study, University of London.
The London, the warship that carried Charles II back to England at the restoration of the Stuart monarchy, exploded and sank in the Thames estuary off Southend in 1665.
The wreck was discovered in 2005, since which time underwater archaeologists have continued to explore the remains and salvage artefacts.
“Buried Treasure: The Wreck of the London” forms part of the Being Human Festival and is open on weekdays from 9am to 8.45pm and Saturdays from 9.30 to 5.15. No booking is required.
The exhibits are on loan from Southend Museum, Cotswold Archaeology and Historic England.
There will also be a presentation about the wreck by marine archaeologist Dan Pascoe followed by a reception at the Institute of Historical Research from 6pm on 22 November. The event is free but advance registration is required here.
