Liveaboard operator Worldwide Dive & Sail has announced that its schooner Fiji Siren has been lost, but that all guests and crew are safe and uninjured.

Details of the incident have yet to be released, but there are thought to have been up to 28 divers and crew aboard at the time.

“We commend the actions of our team for following our stringent emergency training protocols which resulted in the swift evacuation and handling of the situation,” said the Siren Fleet operator in a statement.

“We have consistently refined our safety standards and procedures to deal with any emergency situation and it is a testament to these high standards, that include weekly emergency training, drills and onboard state-of-the-art safety equipment, that this unfortunate event was managed so well.”

WWD&S says that arrangements are being made for guests to return home, and that it is conducting its own investigation.

The company was looking at alternative options for divers already booked to join Fiji Siren, and said that it would be contacting those affected shortly, although in the meantime anyone concerned could email them at fiji@sirenfleet.com

Built in 2012, the ironwood Fiji Siren was a custom-built 40m phinisi-style schooner with a crew of 12 and was designed to take up to 16 guests.

Based at Volivoli Beach Resort on the island of Viti Levu, it carried out 7- and 10-night trips around Lomaiviti and Tavenui Islands and sites such as Bligh Water and the Koro Sea.
