PADI and DAN offer pro cover in Europe
Professional liability insurance is being offered at preferential rates to PADI instructors, dive guides and dive masters in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, following a tie-up between PADI EMEA and safety organisation Divers Alert Network (DAN) Europe.
Under the new agreement PADI Professional members can take up DAN’s Pro Silver membership package for the price of Bronze (which is about 18% cheaper). The plan includes professional indemnity and personal accident insurance with professional liability cover up to 4 million euros per occurrence, valid worldwide year round.

The plan offers access to DAN’s 24/7 hotline and unlimited cover for hyperbaric treatment and repatriation. Assistance and cover are also provided for non-diving medical emergencies abroad, and members can make use of DAN’s Legal Network.
Additional DAN insurance cover is provided for diving accidents involving students on PADI Discover Scuba Diving, Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Basic Freediver, Freediver and Advanced Freediver training courses.
“Having insurance coverage when a dive accident occurs during training can make the difference between being properly defended or being financially ruined even when, as is usually the case, you have done nothing wrong,” says Mark Spiers, PADI EMEA Vice President, Training, Sales & Field Services.
Acknowledging that many professional members feel that liability insurance is necessary only in the USA and Canada, PADI EMEA warns that “in recent years dive litigation has become a truly global issue, with dive-related lawsuits being filed in many locations around the world”.
DAN’s Pro Bronze plan normally costs 162 euros, Pro Silver 198 euros.
