Freedom for snorkellers

0119 travel news snorkelventure

Snorkellers complain that they are too often lumped in with scuba divers on dive-boats heading for sites that turn out to be unsuitable for them – or being called back after just over an hour because the scuba diving is finished.

Now a dedicated snorkel travel company has been set up to ensure that snorkellers aren’t forced to join a dive-boat to reach the world’s top destinations. Bristol-based Snorkel Venture is offering a range of small-group tours guided by a member of its team.

5 January 2019

The tours feature 14-night land-based safaris across Indonesia and the Philippines with topside attractions such as orangutans and cultural experiences, as well as exclusive liveaboard charters to destinations such as Palau, Cuba and Belize, and dedicated resort “snorkel weeks” in Wakatobi and Komodo.

Snorkel Venture’s co-founder Ben Stokes, also owns travel company Dive Safari Asia.

“Most of the snorkellers I meet… feel they are treated as second class to divers,” he says. “We wanted to offer them a place to go – both in terms of where they stay and how they enjoy their passion, but also with the support of a travel company.”

Tours set for 2019 and 2020 are listed on the website.
