Star names set for DIVE 2019 stages

Top divers set to appear on the DIVE 2019 stages include (clockwise from top left): Andy Torbet, Paul Rose, Marcus Greatwood, TekDeck coordinator Mark Powell, PhotoZone speaker Will Appleyard, and Jack Perks.

Some star names have already confirmed their plans to give presentations at the UK’s biggest annual event for scuba divers – DIVE 2019, at NEC Birmingham in October.

All-round adventurer and TV presenter Andy Torbet hasn’t been on our screens quite so much lately because he has been engaged on a secret mission – perhaps he’ll give us some clues on the DIVER Stage. One thing is sure, Andy is never short of a great diving story.

The same applies to Paul Rose, who has criss-crossed the world leading Nat Geo’s Pristine Seas expeditions. It will come as no surprise to hear that locating pristine seas is becoming increasingly difficult – but if it’s there, he’s the diver to find it!

Other DIVER Stage speakers not to be missed include breath-hold master Marcus Greatwood, who is taking his NoTanx club to Kefalonia this summer with plans to freedive the British WW2 submarine Perseus, famous after stoker John Capes survived an emergency ascent from 50m.

Plus: Jack Perks, whose mission to film all 53 freshwater fish species in Britain took 6 years and many thousands of miles; and Clive Crisp, from the Gibraltar diving unit set up to protect marine life in one of the world’s vital highways for loggerhead turtles, fin, sperm, blue and lost humpback whales, bluefin tuna and other pelagics.

Elsewhere, the TekDeck, coordinated by Mark Powell, will be running a schedule of talks by leading technical divers on subject ranging from a comparison of current rebreather models to kit configuration, the Ocean Theatre will be providing Dive Show visitors with the perfect opportunity to consider future dive travel possibilities, and the PhotoZone Stage will be chokka with underwater photo- and videographers keen to share their expertise and help boost your skills and find you the equipment and accessories you need.

The DIVE 2019 weekend will feature around 200 companies offering diving gear, holidays and services. Opening times are 9.30-6.00 on Saturday 26 October and 9.30-5.00 on Sunday 27 October.

And remember, the price of admission to DIVE 2019 will be repaid many times over for the visitor who wins the Grand Prize Draw prize of an £8000 dive trip for two to Indonesia organised by Regaldive.
