Divers in and around the Shropshire area now have another inland dive site handily located in the county – a sprawling 30-acre body of water aptly named Waters Edge.

Sunken tree roots, branches and trunks create an eerie atmosphere

Exclusively accessible via Shrewsbury-based Severn Tec Diving, Waters Edge – near Much Wenlock – caters to a maximum of 20 divers on any given day, ensuring you have plenty of space both topside and underwater.

There is a solid wooden jetty to gain access to the water, and the car parking slots are ideal to give you plenty of room around your vehicle while you are setting up.

Facilities are basic but more than adequate – there is a Portaloo, and a large military-style tent housing a BBQ and tea/coffee making equipment.

Apart from a large concrete drain pipe ‘ring’ lying on the bottom, there is nothing in the water as far as manmade attractions. Instead, you get eerie-looking tree roots and sunken branches and logs, and quite spectacular rock formations. There are also plenty of fish, but at present they are quite wary of divers, so you have to keep your eyes peeled for them.

Severn Tec Diving are busy creating a ‘gnome garden’, and people are urged to bring gnomes to join the few already down there – and in return will get a free air fill (up to a 15-litre).

Contact Kevin Murphy at Severn Tec Diving for information on diving at Waters Edge. Dive clubs can exclusively book use of the facility for training days, etc.
