Search for Devon diver called off

Eddystone Light

A search for a scuba diver who went missing off south Devon on Saturday, 3 August was called off the following morning.

The diver, reported to be a man in his 50s from Plymouth, was diving with a group about 7.5 miles east of the Eddystone Lighthouse.

He got into difficulties and failed to resurface from his dive, according to the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, at which point his group raised the alarm.

Falmouth Coastguard coordinated a search involving a helicopter and three lifeboats, and requested boats in the area for the annual Fastnet Race to report any sightings.
