Venice canals play host to dolphins in wake of COVID-19 lockdown

While we are getting used to being bombarded with negative press regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, in Italy, nature is showing us it will soon return to areas that had been off-limits.

Residents of Venice have been posting videos and photographs on social media showing swans, fish and even dolphins making the most of the crystal-clear waters in the canal systems.

Where the canals are normally teeming with boats, and the waters are left a muddy brown because of all the traffic, following the COVID-19 lockdown, you can see right to the bottom of the canals – and nature is reclaiming them.

The Space Academy tweeted: ‘After a week of lockdown… The canals in Venice are all clear and full of fishes. Kinda gives you the idea what will happen to Earth without humans!’
