The Ocean Rescue Alliance has teamed up with West Palm Beach county to place a new artificial reef system called 1,000 Mermaids, comprising of 55 concrete modules.

The modules, which vary in shape and size, are made from marine-friendly concrete, and have been under construction since last year.

The reef modules weigh anywhere between 1,700lb to 3,500lb, and have been set on the seabed in just 40ft of water, where they will provide a habitat for fish and other reef dwellers.
