Hairy Harry’s Very Hairy Day is a new childrens book inspired by the Great Barrier Reef Released

Local Cairns diver and award-winning photographer John Magee has published a new and inspirational children book to encourage conservation efforts in the young and highlight the wonderful creatures on The Great Barrier Reef.

At a special book launch event at the Cairns Aquarium attended by prominent members of the underwater and marine conservationists’ communities, John who spent four days underwater photographing the Holy Grail of underwater macro subjects: the hairy ghost pipe fish told the audience how his photo of the Hairy Ghost Pipefish gained 34,000 likes on social media.

He also explained how he always wanted to write a children’s book and while discussing some ideas with members of his family, including his grandchildren, and the quick mindedness of a close friend, ‘Hairy Harry’ was created. More importantly John wanted to write a kid’s book that inspired interest, conservation, and awareness of the not so common creatures of the underwater world, and in particularly those of the Great Barrier Reef.

The first instalment of Harry’s adventures:  ‘Hairy Harry’s Very Hairy Day’ is a great read for children and adults, divers and non-divers alike to enjoy with their families.  You can get a copy of Hairy Harrys Book on Amazon and PegasusPublisher.com from 25th January2024.
