A woman in her 50s has died after a diving accident off the Northumberland coast at the popular Farne Islands site.
The diver, who has not been named yet but is understood to have been with a group from Ormskirk in Lancashire, disappeared back beneath the water after surfacing at 11am yesterday at the Farne Islands, and the Coastguard, lifeboats and other rescue teams from Holy Island and Seahouses launched a search operation. She was located at 2.30pm and given immediate medical treatment, but sadly died a short time later.
The Farne Islands is an immensely popular dive spot for UK divers, who flock to the region to dive in shallow waters with the resident seal population, but there are also wreck and reef dives in the area.
