On 12 September 2024, it is exactly 40 years since the Hilma Hooker sank, and Buddy Dive Resort is hosting a week-long celebration (7-13 September 2024) honouring four decades of Hilma Hooker wreck diving with feature talks, special boat dives, and tons of wreck diving!
The Hilma Hooker is one of the most well-known and popular dives on Bonaire. The wreck is in great shape and easily accessible from shore, as well as by boat, making it the favourite wreck in the Caribbean for many.
The Hilma Hooker was built in 1951 in the Netherlands under the name Midsland. After changing names many times, it ended up on Bonaire in June 1984. It was in very bad shape and, after inspection, the local authorities found a big load of drugs on board the ship.
The ship was already sinking, and no owner came to claim it, and that is why it was sunk between a double reef at a depth of 30m, creating a new playground for divers.
Buddy Dive Resort will celebrate 40 years of the Hilma Hooker with a new event: Hilma Hooker Week. During this week – 7-13 September 2024 – guests can sign up for a wide variety of activities such as:
- Wreck Specialty courses
- Guided penetration dives
- Night wreck boat dives
- Twinset trydives
- Free presentations at Blennies restaurant & bar
- Dedicated boat dives to the wreck
Would you like to join this extraordinary week dedicated to the Hilma Hooker wreck? Mark your calendars for 7-13 September 2024!
