I dived in Egypt twice this year on a popular live aboard from Hurghada in the North Red Sea, one of the crew from the sunken boat was my dive guide and shared his stories with me which hasn’t been shared publicly, and I’m reluctant to discuss it here. Our own boat ran aground on the reef due to a mechanical issue, ribs broke down frequently, it was quite wild west. One time when we came back from a dive the ladder was up, so headcount could be better. Level of divers was very mixed, and risks were taken regularly to keep the divers happy. And the shark attack happened at my hotel the week after I returned. It’s a bit wild west out there right now, but prices are low and that’s partly responsible for the lack of money to rectify these issues and improve safety. You really need to have your wits about you.

👍😎🤿! Some sad news about the divers and the man who was attacked by the shark but keep up the podcast!
According to scientific researchers you don’t have to spend 100 days under water in order to see some changes in your body. A few minutes in cold water can shrink some body parts immediately.
Does anyone have a link to the diveintalk communication system he’s talking about ?
Re Hurricane: this is the third boat incident in the last couple of months. One newly refurbished boat capsized and sank, one day boat ran abound on the reef and now one caught fire. I was in Hurghada a couple of weeks ago: H&S is very different over there – both in our hotel and the day boat we were on (No boat safety briefing, tanks being thrown around by crew, smoking on the dive deck, tanks being removed from divers almost as they surfaced – my air suddenly stopped once while I was still on the ladder – the crew had closed the valve and purged my octo already… )
The time is right for a wholesale review of standards and procedures across the industry there.
My liveaboard ran aground as well…
One part you left out about the shark.. they did announce finding the severed body parts inside.. 🤷♂️
