3 Ways To Beat Sea Sickness When Scuba Diving
#ScubaDiving #ScubaDiverMag #Scuba
***** THANK YOU FOR WATCHING *****
Do you suffer from seasickness?
I specifically get bad seasickness on those 60-70 foot charter fishing boats. Nothing else. Its like theyre the perfect size to make my equilibrium go 🌀😵💫
I have struggled with motion sickness my entire life. Even in the car. I love scuba diving though. On my most recent dive trip to Utila, I used a scopalamine patch, dramamine, and zofran and still puked off the side of the boat after my second dive on two out of 4 days. I have been drinking ginger ale and water nonstop. I have been snacking on the boat with mild symptom relief. This is ruining my trip. I feel nauseous just thinking about getting back on the boat.
The cure is to avoid diving this is it.
I have been on several boats of various sizes and I have been on trips of various lengths. I have done boat SCUBA dives as well. I never got sick. Then a couple of years ago I did a boat dive and got seasick for the first time. This past summer my son and I went on another boat dive and I got sic again. Kind of upset that something has but I am glad there are things out there to help.
I forgot to add MAYONAZE to the list of NO NOS OR oranything made with it in my last comment it is probably the number one “UP CHUCKER ! “
Liquid snot
Lucky me, I never had problems with seasickness. My advice for those who have, stay hydrated, before entering the boat and during your stay, also vitamin C simply eat an aple for breackfast or an orange, that will help a lot. And then (I am not a doctor so ask a doctor before taking medicin) use anty alergic medicin. For example hey fiver tablets or nose spray for hey fiver. These things ar anti histamines taking them up front, an hour or so, before the boat trip wil lkeep the seasickness away!
Good stuff!
great advice.
i’ve been on 3 liveaboards and swear by the scop patch. i put a tough strips band aid over it so it doesn’t fall off. i’ve never been seasick. (i wish i can find find a knock on wood emoji). however they do have side effects. a little loopy and jittery. when i’m not on the liveaboard i take a gravol an hour before getting on the boat to dive.
in bali (i’m from canada) they made you take a gravol before diving. on an excursion before crossing on a boat to an island they had a big bowl of gravol in the lobby in the terminal.
i used the bands at amusement parks you can tell they work because you arm goes stiff so there not just for diving.
i seem to agree with your wife on the overkill.
can you send the link for the best shore dives.
I started going out on the fish boats on the lakes when I was 5 in 1954 I have never been sea sick in 1964 I worked on a ocean trawler out of Halifax 30 guys on the boat two week trip worked round the clock every trip 8 to 10 new crew
Anybody getting seasick not an option
Every trip it rotated 2 guys sent to the galley to cook eventually it was your turn
When it was your turn in the galley you went around and seen if anyone was allergic to anything there were no epi pens can’t have any body gutting sick 500 miles at sea
Newbies till they got there sea legs or if they were feeling queasy were only given
” PLANE FOOD ” (takes up to 3 days)
KETCHUP MUSTARD RELISH SALAD DRESSING anything SPICEY anything CREAMY BASICALLY “,PUKE IN A JAR ! ,”
Might taste good going down you also get to taste it comming back up !
SEASICK PILLS Something else to throw up WRIST BAND TOTAL PLACEBO !
Planning pn taking a trip on a boat
Purge yourself of the crap a few days ahead anything bland microwave a potato toast lightly butter apple orange granola
On the Boat be sure to remove any loose dentistry bring dry bread water
If you feel queasy nibble the dry bread sip the water
Tastes good going down you should be fine if the worst happens it comes up easy
Stand two thirds back on the boat look at the horizon
Watch where the crew are standing
Watch how they are swaying back and forth (sea legs) and copy
It’s an experience you will always remember one of life’s little joys!
In 1967 I ce back to the lakes wheni learned how to scuba dive
I worked on a fish boat for a fellow who had been escorting ships to England during the second world War
When he spoke that was it!
From time to time the teache from the senior high-school class would make arrangements to bring 8 of his brightest students out with us for the day to see what it was like?
I always told them to pack a good lunch !
Sometimes when the trip was on it would be bowing and the lake would be rough .The boss would tell them right out
” today might not be a good day to go”
They would be gung-ho to go saying we will be fine.
Then the boss would say once the lines come off the dock we are not comming back till we are done
They would be begging us to turn around before we got to the end of the pier
All sick they were in the bunk for the rest of the day.
At least they brought good food for us
Thank god, no I don’t. Wife and I did a live aboard in the Bahamas a couple years ago and on the crossing from Nassau to the Exumas it was a bit rough (3-6 ft seas) and there were several who were just miserable the entire day. With so many around you sick, you start to wonder if you are supposed to feel something.
I’ve tried a ton of different sea sickness remedies and the Scop patch is by far the best. Also remember to STAY HYDRATED!
Scop patch definitely worked for me on a fishing trip. Thought you can’t dive with it though
