That is basically the beginning of the end. The industry has been plagued by non-existant technical innovation and this will only get worse as shareholder value becomes the only goal.
😋 ‘promo sm’
I’m looking to buy my first BCD/Regs. And I was looking at a Aqualung/apeks package. Wondering if this would be a bad move given the uncertainty with them at the moment?
It’s important to remember that it’s still great quality equipment and it’s just a change of ownership at this stage, under good management they should be able to make it profitable again.
That being said, it should be a part of the decision making process. I’d be very surprised if a company like AquaLung could completely disappear and it will be a while before I hang up my Apeks regulators
#AskMark. How long do you envision it will be before parts for Aqualung/Apeks regulators become hard to find given this acquisition news ?
Some already are in short supply and have been for some time…
It may be tough over the next year or so to get certain parts. They still have their manufacturing facility in Blackburn. With good management and financial backing they should be able to get back to producing spares but, their focus may be on producing new gear over replacement parts for a while to get their profits up
hard to see how this story is going to end well for AquaLung Apeks. Investment companies want to make money at all cost. As a result, they will be cutting cost wherever they can. First thing they will be doing is reducing staff as much as they can. Then they will be looking at every product to see where they can lower cost by searching for cheaper suppliers and or cheaper materials which will not improve the quality of the consumer product.
If AquaLung Apeks don’t quickly get bought out by a company with a real interest in the scuba industry, they are doomed to die the painful death so many brands have suffered in the hands of financial investors.
You are generalising at best, they might invest money in developing products and excel. WHO KNOWS
I agree with Nigel ….these companies come in suck the life out and leave the empty husk . Andy show us some companies that do otherwise. I hope Apeks can survive
@Ivory Johnson
I recently read that 20% of Corporations are owned by Investment companies with this business model, but like I said if it suits you to generalise and cry the sky is falling, go ahead.
😂
@Andy Green having worked for a couple of companies that were acquired by investment companies I speak from experience. While I agree that there are investment companies like you describe the vast majority are in the game for short term gains and these are created as I wrote above.
I hope it works out differently for AquaLung Apeks – time will tell!
#askMark I’m on the xdeep project system but struggle to reach my twin-set valves and turn them, specifically the tank valves more than the manifold. Any tips on stretches or adjusting the harness or otherwise?
The valve handles should be between the top of your shoulders and your ears. If they’re too low then you may need to move your backplate down.
If the valves are in the right place then it’s down to shoulder stretches that focus on shoulder mobility. Every morning set aside 5-10mins to work on your stretches and a few times during the day repeat them and you’ll soon find the valves become easier to reach
👍😎Thanks!
Keep up the great work!
