@Leopold Bloom
I carry a aqualung small squeeze titanium and I love it. The only downside is that for some reason in the titanium version they don’t have a blunt tip option. I thought about grinding the tip off, but I‘m not sure if the knife is massive titanium or steel with a layer of titanium on the outside, in which case I‘d ruin it by grinding off that layer. Good or bad idea? #askmark

@Corley O'Neill
#askmark Hi Mark, big fan been following you for years from Simply Scuba :) I’m looking to build a long hose setup and currently use XTX 50’s and DST, is it worth upgrading to the XTX 200 and purchasing 5 port DST and pass my 50’s down to my newly qualified partner? Thanks a lot, Corley!

@Philip Lucky
#askmark question when service is done on your BCD or reg 1st 2nd stages etc, what do they actually do when these services occur as I have always been interested thank you Mark…

@cags51
#askmark for boltsnaps should you go with mating marine grade or can you buy a decent SS one and prep them for scuba?

@Ed Dudley
#AskMark Hi Mark, any thoughts on the AP Diving Tekwing?

@Craig Miles
#ASKMARK.
Loving the Q&A.
What's the best way to look after your ears on a liveaboard or dive holiday when you're going to be doing three plus dives a day? Warm climate.

#ASKMARK Hello Mark, while out diving recently I talked to an experienced diver who was diving with twins but did not have any manifold on them, i.e. each cylinder had a first stage with a primary and an SPG. One cylinder had the low pressure inflator for his BC. What are the pros and cons of a manifold setup versus independent twins?

I ground tip off my aqualung squeeze and ground the back blade off (one with line cutter) so if I had to actually cut line near skin it wouldn’t turn them into sushi slices.

#askmark Hi Mark I have a question about setting up conservatism. When is time or reason to change it? I saw a difference between my garmin mk2i and my guide cressi computer (not sure what model or algorithm. ) when I changed mine to medium our ndl was matching. Thanks and keep up great work.

#askmark Hi! I recently did some shore dives with a long surface swim (with currents!) with my avanti quattros. They felt awful and needed a ton of force on the surface. I opted to swim on my back. What other techniques do you recommend for long surface swims?

for power I swim on my side so that my fins don’t leave the water. For a chilled surface swim I swim on my back with a frog kick

#askmark Hi Mark! What are your thoughts on the Cressi Travelight BCD for someone looking for a jacket style travel BCD. Also, what are your thoughts on the Mares 15x 1st and 2nd stage as far as overall performance and cost? Looking forward to your thoughts on both!

#askmark Thanks for all the fantastic advise over the years. How can a rec diver with a jacket or a back inflate BCD, rig a long hose setup without a canister or a hose retainer on the waist strap for hose management? ( or how can I rig a hose retainer on my Hydros Pro)?
I switched to a long hose rig when I switched to an xdeep BP wing, but after two years had to go back to a back inflate BCD (Scubapro Hydros Pro). I didn’t have a canister or hose retainer on the xdeep so I had a hose management issue with that setup as well. Now that I’m back with a BCD, I reluctantly went back to a rec rig octo setup due to hose management. Thanks.

Much the same as a BPW setup but tuck a loop of hose under the inside of your waistband. It’s still quick release by tugging the 2nd stage but the hose doesn’t float off

does a hood help with swimmers ear?

They can to a certain degree because they prevent water and nasties from flushing around your ears. But, water still gets in your ears so it’s still important to dry your ears after a dive

As far as ear health goes some fresh clean water right after the dive (water bottle) helps not having any bacteria left in there.

Hi Mark, thanks for your advice on grinding the tip of a knife. I‘ll let you know how it worked out. By the way, Cressi had a titanium line cutter, but only the cutter itself was titanium, so the blades rusted anyway.

#askmark Hi Mark, would you consider cavern diving as recreational or technical diving? Interesingly PADI offers the cavern diving course as a rec specialty, and SSI as tech (part of extended range). Normally PADI and SSI courses are interchangeable; but would this still be the case for cavern diving? Also, could it be that a DC does not accept PADI for cavern diving because they qualify it as tech? Lastly, do you have experience with cavern diving? Any 9 to share:) Thanks for your thoughts!

#scubaQuestion
I would like some thought on improving finger-dexterity with gloves in 10 degrees C or below.
– I’m having trouble refitting my mask and disconnecting the drysuit hose using 5mm gloves.
Also

#scubaQuestion
Is it worth it buying an old air integrated dive computer….. as is 2008-10
– I guess maybe an review on old computers….. pro cons…. Best and absolute worst….. transmitter compatibility…

Thanks for all your inspiration

Dry gloves are the best option. And I used to dive a pair of 5mm gloves with the finger tips removed and a pair of thinner 3mm gloves underneath

DAN recommends a mixture of 50% alcohol and 50% white vinegar for ear care. Just spray a bit or put a few drops in your ears after every dive

Otitis is really a pain in the, well, ear. In addition to the alcohol and vinegar against infections, a little glycerin helps to protect the skin inside your ears against drying out. Also, I wear a headscarf on board to protect my ears against the wind.
