Can I Re-Thread Webbing Harness on a Different Backplate #AskMark #scuba

#askmark I'm going on a liveaboard in Egypt in March and since I also want to see and do other things than diving I'm going backpacking the week before or after. To save weight I want to switch my 5mm steel backplate for a 3mm aluminium backplate. That means I have to take my whole wing apart and since I bought my wing second hand I never took it apart completely (just small bits at a time). I'm worried that I will put it back together the wrong way. Anything I need to think about when putting together a wing? It's a Tecline btw.

Should I Change My Regulator Hoses Every 5 Years? #askmark #scuba
@jeffmoye
Do Miflex hoses need to be replaced regularly? One service tech I spoke to said they need to be replaced every 5 yrs. can’t find anything on their website or brochure about it so I wonder if it’s obsolete news related to the rubber failure issue they used to have?

#askmark Mark you mention the difference in bpw fit when switching between warm and cold water wet suits. I use a loop adjustment ring on my left bpw waist strap to ease donning and doffing. Any reason not to use one on my right also which should help snugging up on a thinner wet suit? Thanks, John

Yeah, Agir makes a double loop but, you have to buy them as a pair…
You’ll be surprised at how long your waistband will be swapping down from your drysuit so you may need to move the D-Ring(s) on your hip and your QR buckle. But it is definitely possible

I’ll just be switching between 7 mil and 2.5 mil and back so hopefully shouldn’t have to relocate anything.

Yes you butchered my name but it’s hard so no worries there! Great tips, thanks! I just did it and it took me “just” an hour, way easier than I thought it would be. For next time I’m going to buy a new set of webbing for the 3mm backplate that stays on that one so it takes less time. Really happy with the help!

Might save up for some light weight hardware too. A light weight rig is on my list right now too.

Hi Mark! I am very appreciative of all your content as it has been top notch, especially your Apeks & Shearwater gear reviews. My question for you is this: Several years ago, during a move from one home to a new one, somehow my dive log went missing. While my certification cards were in my log binder, those are easily replaced (for the appropriate fee of course). However, its the dive information that I am truly missing, as I have no way of reproducing any of that information. While my number of dives has not been numerous (under 50), it is annoying none the less as I want to go divemaster in the near future. What would be my best course of action? Just start over at dive #1 or start at the #X I know I was at, which would likely less the actual number of dives. Thoughts? Thanks for your time and keep up the great work. #ASKMARK

I’d just continue from the rough number that you think you’re at. It’s a pain when you lose a section of your dive logs, I’ve done it myself and had to restart my logs so I don’t know the exact number.

When you decide to go Pro, try to go above and beyond the minimum dive count. They shouldn’t need to see your entire dive log, just your most recent dives. You’ll be gauged more on how you are in the water than what’s in your log book

I would start from the highest number you can definitely recall. For the future, I would recommend you keep a digital record as well – personally I recommend Subsurface, as that is cross-platform, and pretty much agnostic in terms of dive computer downloads, and as a bonus, uses an optional cloud storage model.
