Marcel van den Berg discussed why it's important for all scuba instructors to have an amazing attitude towards diving, teaching, and helping people take those first few steps into the diving world.

Did Your Scuba Instructor Have An Amazing Attitude?
#ScubaDiving #ScubaInstructor #PADI
***** THANK YOU FOR WATCHING *****
What attribute do you think a good professional needs to have?
Patience! Patience is underrated when it comes to teaching.
When a newbie only gets 20 mins on 200bar patience is key
@Luke M That is absolutely right LM, stay tuned as we will discuss that in Video #5 in this series :)
If you wanna be an instructor monkey and work for peanuts (while paying $2000 for the privilege) contact Marcel in Ko Tao 😂 😂 😂
Do you know the difference between God and Dive Instructor ?
God doesn’t think he is a dive Instructor 😅
Hi Marcel, love your videos and Thanks for so many information that you shared..
I finished my ow, advance, rd since years ago.. I’m 51 and retired from my job. Now I already moved and stay in Bali, and want to dive much because I really love it.
Now I’m thinking to take divemaster course, so I can be involved with diving activites everyday at least for 1 to 2 months
I imagine I can dive many times everyday, can upgrade my dive skill, can filling the tanks maybe, can learn about to repair the gear, etc..
From your perspective, is it possible for me at my age now to take a DM course? Have you ever teach a DM student at the age of 50 or more? Or have you ever heard about 50 years old to take divemaster course?
I even thinking about to get to the IDC course after this dm. 😄
I’m in very fit condition, love to learn, have passions, Age is just my only concern
Kia Ora from New Zealand.
Im a Divemaster since December and I can see exactly what you are talking about with attitude.
Also thankyou for all your videos on Divemaster skills it really helped me with getting good results in the 24 skills .
Currently I am working my way through the IDC elearning workbook and its a big difference from divemaster especially the physics , but as you say having a good attitude is helping for it all plus being able to dive most days is so amazing to be able to do super grateful .
Looking forward to more tips
Hi Timothy, Thank you for the compliment and I know Physics is for most people the least cool part of diving. But when you understand it you can pass your exam and the reward is to fulfil many others dream to become Scuba Divers! :)
With the right attitude you will be an amazing instructor!
btw check out my website with great tips for the open water skills, it can help you for teaching it also: https://www.scubadivingtips.net/padi-open-water-skills-list.html
Remembering that it’s your students first time even though it’s your 10 thousandth time
I love this comment! Something only the best Diving Instructors think! I think I will add this slogan to my wall in the IDC Classroom.
Hello Marcel, thank you for the great video. I have taken the IDRC, I did very well with the in water instruction. But did not pass the class room section. Any suggestions on how to prepare for the exam? I love working with students and totally agree having a genuine positive attitude is the key to the students success. Thanks again!
Hi Francis, First of all, thank you for the compliment :) It is very common to see people succeed in one thing but struggle at another. Some people are fantastic in the water and not so good with theory, while others are wizards with the theory but have issues with their buoyancy. A few are good with everything and less than that are bad with everything.
Remember that a good attitude is the most important thing and when you have that you can learn the rest. people learn in different ways, but in the end, it’s all about repetition to get better at something. All of us can learn physics, but it just takes a bit longer for some people than others. I struggled with theory during my Divemaster and IDC. I got so frustrated that I kept trying and trying. In the end, I learned and repeated the theory more than most other candidates and I got 100% on the exam and now I am teaching this theory to others! Just don’t give up!
In my IDC’s I have created extra practice exams and I stay late after class to help students that need extra time with theory. This way almost all passes the exam. Maybe ask your Course Director for some extra exams or ask him to help you one on one with practicing theory. Soon I will be adding some theory video’s on these YouTube Channels so don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to the Scuba Diver Magazine channel and my Personal YouTube Channel by clicking on my name here or in the description.
Best of success Francis and remember, never give up and you get what you want! 🤙
