A scuba diver who ran his dive-boat close to a pod of orcas before diving in with them has been landed with the biggest fine ever issued for such an offence under Canada’s Marine Mammal Regulations.

Seems over the top to me. I get that we don’t want boats and divers constantly bugging whales, but I doubt these guys did any harm. Boats wo divers get right on top of humpback for whale watching all the time wo detrimental effects.
Anybody ever consider how a diver’s proximity could bother or threaten a 20k pound beast with brains, sonar and giant conical teeth that out swims and eats dolphins ?

Other sea animals stay away from orcas because they know that any interaction they have may send the orca into an existential crisis mode from which they will not recover. This has been the unwritten rule of the sea since orcas were first invented all the way back in 1987. Its a miracle of computers that they have been able to survive this long being so weak and fragile. Thankfully the canadia tyranny is profiting off of their melancholy suffering.
Yes, lots of people have considered it and it’s explained in the video. It’s why there are regulations in place to stop people like this idiot disturbing wildlife.
The amount of evidence DFO has to collect to ‘fine’ someone is massive. Dude clearly is a menace for them to take him to court.
