If you plan on deep dives or long dives I would recommend a simpler alternative! Too much money and too many options that are distracting.
It is a lot of money, but as we said, if you were going to buy a Teric, for instance, and then a separate sports/fitness watch, you would spend more in total than buying the Descent MK2i. It all depends what you want from a wristwatch dive computer. If you only want it as a watch and for diving, there are plenty of viable alternatives, but if you want all the functionality of a fitness watch as well, then the Descent MK2i makes a lot of sense.
All those confusing options to focus on while diving! You will spend more time fumbling around while diving and not actually enjoying the dive!
You can personalise the display to only show the information you want, but it is no more confusing than any other computer out there, to be honest. I have just been sticking it in single-gas mode and going diving, and it is very easy to navigate the screen display even in stock form.
I have a MK1 and have just purchased the MK2. I have seen people say the the price is high which it is but when you compare it to the price of the Teric you are paying approx 399 more but you get the feature for the fenix 6 capabilities within the dive computer which is a bargain, and as you and Richard have said if you want a smart watch and a dive computer then this is the one for you.
yes the competition…none is a daily use full fledged sport watch like garmin.

Is there any word on the screen type? I assume it’s an lcd (why I went with the teric over the mk1), so I’m curious to see if they’d switch over to oled for visibility.

Just ordered the mk2i. But the transmitter won’t be available for 3-5wks estimated. Looking forward to having this watch. Also ordered the aqua lung package with pro hd bcd, titan regulator, and octopus, and i300c dive computer console. Hopefully everything will arrive before next class. Although I won’t really need watch till open water dives.
Was an early Mk1 adopter, and love both the dive and the topside every day watch functionality and reliability. After months of teases about a possibly Mk2 with air integration, I finally gave up and invested in the Teric as my primary dive computer, with the Garmin Mk1 as secondary (both use identical algorithms, which seem to track well together. Shearwater makes a terrific A/I dive watch, with arguably best in class displays and ease of manipulation, but it will never replace as an every day watch; it lacks the smart watch and multi-sport features, and battery life doesn’t match up to the Garmin Fenix and Mk1. Now that the Mk2i is finally out, Garmin has provided excruciatingly painful temptation… a Mk2 primary/Mk1 secondary makes for a superb redundant configuration. Thanks Garmin!!
