#ASKMARK Hello Mark, while out diving recently I talked to an experienced diver who was diving with twins but did not have any manifold on them, i.e. each cylinder had a first stage with a primary and an SPG. One cylinder had the low pressure inflator for his BC. What are the pros and cons of a manifold setup versus independent twins?

I thought that UK regulations meant that the compressor, banks set up and air quality had to be checked every three months.
Regarding smokers, CO stays in their blood stream for up to 24 hours after a cigarette, depending on how much and how frequently they smoke of course.

After you fit your regs to the cylinder and test for leaks under pressure, bcd inflation, pressure gauge, you should take a few breaths from your reg, to check air quality. This should have been part of your OW training. Always test your air this way. You don’t want to be descending when you find out your air has been contaminated. Everyone else is going down, it will be hard to get anyone’s attention.

So what personal co2 device would you recommend for detecting co2?

It’s not something we have personally tested, however there are a few on the market you could consider. Like this https://www.divegearexpress.com/palm-co-carbon-monoxide-analyzer

You should always taste the air before a dive. CO itself has no taste, smell or colour, but if the contamination is due to the fumes from a generator or something like this, you might sense diesel. Of course, testing the air with a proper device is even better.
