I use a hydros pro with a long hose setup. Under the right hip weight pocket I mounted my dsmb using the scuba pro bungee system make for that bcd. The hose goes right under the dsmb. It works fantastic. I
Thanks for another informative video. I purchased a new 7mm wetsuit and hood so did a few dives in the local dive shop pool to dial in my weighting. Asked Henderson about cleaning it and they stated a few times in the pool would be ok, but 3-4 times a month for a few months could be a problem as chlorine is caustic to neoprene. What impact if any does chlorine have over all of my other gears components (Ranger LDT BCD, G2 computer, finger spool and DSMB, fins with bungee strap or stainless steel spring)?
Also, I dive in the pool a few times a month just to get away and work on skills always using my gear as configured for OW dives. My gear is not cheap so again is this wise due to the chlorine?
Thanks
Ed
They’re correct, the chlorine will degrade your gear. If you look at seasoned school gear you’ll see what it can do.
It’s usually discolouration as the black material turns grey or brown and smaller rubber and plastic parts can deteriorate and eventually fail.
If you give your gear a good rinse with fresh water on the inside and outside after a pool dive you’ll reduce the effects of chlorine.
#askmark I recently signed up for my scuba class and I realized the tank is really heavy on my back and with the bcd I was given gets uncomfortable with all the weight. Do you know if there Is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable?
Sure, all of the gear can bear down on your shoulders and back on the surface. The best thing is to limit the amount of time that you’re carrying the weight. So, don’t stand up until absolutley necessary. Rest the weight of the cylinder on anything available and only lift it right before you need to get in the water. Some divers put their BCD on in the water to avoid the weight on their shoulders.
There are BCDs that are designed to take the weight off your shoulders and have extra padding for comfort. School equipment is fairly basic and not built for comfort so it will get better when you invest in your own gear
I wear a weight belt with a hose retainer under my zeagle ranger jacket BCD. Sticks out just enough to capture the long hose
👍more good stuff thanks 👍
Facial hair question… How do you get your mask to seal when you have fur on your face? I have been shaving before going diving, as a hold over from military gas chamber training, and I notice that you have a wonderful beard and mustache so I would assume you aren’t shaving for your dives.
#1 a good fitting mask. If it doesn’t work try some lube rubbed into your mo and beard.
All Depends on the mask or your tolerance to ware in the nose lol. I dive a hollis m-1 with a full beard and moustache no problem
One can also trim a little bit off the top of the mo, just under the nose. Helps just enough with the mask seal.
I use a 7ft long hose and back up on the necklace. I simply push the excess into my waistband. I like always diving the same set up all the time. For tec or rec same regulators.
Long hose on Rec BCD… simply use a 1.50m hose, there is no need for a 2.10m hose for Rec divers.
With the Hydros pro, it comes with a small webbing waistband, could the person technically fit a hose retainer to the webbing? Just a thought if they’ve moved from a BP&W set up?
You can wear the hydros without those weight pockets and use the integrated weight pockets on the back of the wing. In this case the waist is normal webbing style waist band
