I’ve been scuba diving my entire professional career in both beautiful crystal clear waters of the Tropics to the not-so clear waters around the world. Diving up in the Arctic Circle and marine conservation work down in remote Madagascar. As a full-time scuba Instructor I taught divers in both warm and cold waters and lead countless dives.
But, my main specialty is dive equipment. Since 2010 I’ve been working with a wide range of scuba diving brands and 8 years working for one of the largest scuba diving retailers with hands-on experience with cutting edge dive equipment.
Did someone crochet a life ring?
Idk I usually start putting my gear together as soon as I get on the boat. That being said I dive in Florida and 9/10 don’t wear a wetsuit. So when the DM says to start getting ready all I gotta do is strap on my gear
I think that’s often because of guids/DMs/instructors rushing people and the easiest thing to be ready “quick enough” other than telling the person who is supposed to guide you, that you need more time, is starting early.
So please DMs/instructors/buddies: don’t rush people.
Not everyone has done hundreds of dives, especially not on that exact boat/divesite/with the same gear.
I completely agree Mark but being ex military I’m always ready 5 minutes early! Not such a problem on bigger dive boats where the ‘dive deck’ is in the shade. I also dislike being hastened by others when I’m doing my pre-dive checks.
