Should I Change My Regulator Hoses Every 5 Years? #askmark #scuba
@jeffmoye
Do Miflex hoses need to be replaced regularly? One service tech I spoke to said they need to be replaced every 5 yrs. can’t find anything on their website or brochure about it so I wonder if it’s obsolete news related to the rubber failure issue they used to have?

I have approximately 1250 dives in 10 years and up until 2 yrs ago I used my bulky cannon SLR . I purchased a Kraken phone housing and learned to love it! So much more convenient and with my 14 pro the quality is very similar. I use my SLR tray with 2 8000 luman video lights which gives me the quality photos that I’m used to. Just today I ordered the new oceanic housing and very much look forward to using it next month in the Philippines. I would never go back to the SLR!

So interesting, I dive an shoot with excellent gear. But I’m tired of the airport security and luggage hassle. Going this rout I can drop about 40lbs of gear. The new iPhone pro Max 15 has macro capability, 48 MP and a variety of less selections. Probably will still have to guess what to set the phone to before going down. Thinking of paring with a Keldan Light and shoot raw log footage. Yes I believe it can do this things. Losing the phone, I have backups to the cloud and most of the places I dive, well there are seldom any bars. If a shark did rip it out of my hands then when I get back to land I get a new phone ’cause I have the insurance.

This housing will greatly improve the average person’s videos. I would like to try it on a macro dive, especially at night with my video lights so I would not have to look at the dark computer on my wrist.

My question for Oceanic is if they will have a water contact wide angle lens. iJustine has a terrific video with nice standard clips. The ultra wide video show pronounced distortion.

It’s a massive gimmick, and I want it.
I absolutely love my Ultra and I love the Oceanic app! I have a subscription so this would be a great addition.

Shame there is no UK release date.
I have a locker in the states, which anything I send there will get shipped back to me in Plymouth… so I think that’s what I’m going to have to do!

I wanted to buy it until you said subscription. It looks great but paying an additional subscription on top of the price of $500 is too much in my opinion.

Dynamic depth color correction? Seems the way to go to replace a Paralenz. It just doesn’t have the torch form factor.

If you lose your iPhone underwater, your life is gone…. I prefer not to take my phone in the water

If you have a iphone14 it’s a satellite phone too. So if you’re lost out at sea or an emergency, you can easily use it for satellite features?

And if your phone flood and breaks, or you somehow lose phone, the deductible for a replacement phone (next day shipping) is $150. Everything is already saved on the cloud also, no no losing any data. 🤦‍♂️ boomer

I was very interested until I heard the price. $500 is way too expensive! Plus the additional subscription cost to unlock its full capabilities. You could get the latest/greatest action cam plus a waterproof housing for less

Oh my giddy aunt. Got to get one of these! Was thinking about getting a less expensive housing but this baby rocks. Not going to bother with the premium subscription as use Eon Core air integrated.

I think if you’re willing to pay thousands of dollars on a trip, you can afford a $10 a month subscription if you really want oceanic – aside from all of the hardware.

I love the idea of having the dive computer display on my “camera”. Would be great if it can support air integration.

Speaking as a professional scientific diver, I think this is a great „add-on“ and a great Gadget for new beginner divers. I would get it for my company for quick pictures that need to get out to the client, another backup computer or for shallow dives where we don’t want our huge camera setup. It’s not however an alternative for a “proper” dive computer as I see too many failure points, like the fact you don’t mount it on your arm, even if, it’s a snag hazard, or water leakages.

I have a Shearwater Teric & Go Pro w/tray & video lights. I dive 100+ times a year so risking my $1,200 iPhone in a housing does not make sense for me. My equipment may only serve a single purpose, but it does that purpose very well. I have no desire to buy the Ultra watch nor dive housing for my iPhone at this time. Neither outperform what I currently use.

#ASKMARK Hi Mark. I’m enjoying the vlogs and podcasts. Great work!
Is it possible for you or a fellow member of dive magazine to provide a practical dive vlog demonstrating the Apple Ultra Watch along with their new iPhone camera casing linked with the Oceanic+ subscription A verbal review has lower acceptance than a visual demonstration with a professional review of its practicality and value for money -v- a comparable dive computer and camera. Cheers, geemac

Yeah, it’s tough when brand new gear is released and we don’t have a sample. This is what we plan to do though, and why I had to get my HSE qualification.

Cool item for sure.
But i prefer go-pro, since if i loose it during the dive or break- Less money out the pocket, and i don’t loose connection with the world.

Sealife Sportdiver is what I use for an iPhone specifically for budget high quality photography. Also this doesn’t require a monthly subscription if I end up going a while between diving. I’m sticking with my buy it once have it forever no subscription required Sportdiver and my wrist dive computer. If they eliminated the subscription required then some of those features would be quite appealing.

Use of the Oceanic+ app in the dive housing is FREE for taking photos and videos, and features the automatic color correction, depth tracking, water temperature and dive time.

I believe the subscription is only if you want to use it as a dive computer as well.

@nick Hollis hey Nick, what’s the best way to get in touch with y’all for a review unit so we can make content about the case? As an instructor and content creator, I’m asked about underwater video a LOT and have always been a GoPro person, though the Sportdiver case, Oceanic’s case (good job Huish for pushing the industry!), and DiveVolk are ones I’ve been interested in but am afraid to use with my expensive iPhone Pro….

I’d love to get hands on with a review unit to make content but can’t seem to get a good contact at Oceanic/Huish Outdoors. Good to see you in the comments too :)

If the company can promise that the case works with the next four iPhone generations and different versions and has a 10-year warranty, then maybe yes, but really no.

Soo, they are doing what WeeFine/kraken have been doing for years and years ? These alternatives also support non-Apple devices. My family all have Weefine housings with iPhones, and they are fantastic for photos and video, plus make a fairly good backup computer. Housings are the way forward for most recreational divers, as they are convenient and use your existing tech. They also allow you to upgrade your camera without all the cost of new housings. Definite fan, but check out what is already on the market as well as the new Apple endorsed offering.

With the quality of phone cameras plus they can do macro and wide angle without changing lenses or ports this will be amazing. Not needing to buy the camera is a bonus. I use the apple watch app and it works great, except it isnt air integrated but I carry a SPG anyway so it’s not a deal breaker. Prob with action cams is they don’t do close ups well so this is a game changer.

I have the Sealife Sportdiver that I have used with multiple generations of iPhones. It is fantastic and there are a ton of strobe lighting options out there. I have taken hundreds of amazing photos with it. It’s definitely with the investment of $350.

Just got off a liveaboard. Two divers had the Sealife phone housings and hated them! They had trouble with them all week. They both wanted to give it away and/or throw them overboard!

@Darcy Rios I have 2 of them (same case) and the leak alarm is so freaking annoying on both. I thought I had a faulty one so I bought another just to learn that this one has that issue too. Im getting this oceanic case and hopefully that’s that

I’d buy it for the photo case alone. the fact that it comes as some sort of backup computer as well only makes it more interesting

I cannot wait to get this in my hands. Currently using the Divevolk case but this seems like a nice upgrade. Already have the subscription for my AWU but I also still use my Suunto D5 on every dive.

I use a Huawei P30 Pro in the old Weefine WFH01 Housing which also has a built in dive computer (kinda). Its paired with a one off lifetime subscription with dive+ app. I have a Shearwater Teric as my main dive computer. The beauty of the dive computer in these types of housings is for the data it captures for the photos and never having to manually fill out a Dive Log (GPS/Dive Site Captured, photo colour correction which is fantastic and having all your pictures associated with that particular dive). There is no reason you couldnt use an iphone in the newer WFH05 and achieve the exact same thing at half the price of this one.

I’ve been using the SeaLife Sport Diver for over 2 years now (about 80 dives). It takes great photos and videos, and no subscription required. When I bought it, it was $299 USD. Still going strong and worth every penny. As for the dive computer, I’ll stick with my Teric (with a Perdix as my backup). It’s hard for me to move from Shearwater, their customer service is outstanding. I haven’t had an issue with my computers, but any of my friends that have, our dive shop has sent the computers to Shearwater and gotten fixed or replaced with no charge. For the viewer concerned about losing their iPhone, my SeaLife case is securely tethered to my BCD.
