#ASKMARK Hello Mark, while out diving recently I talked to an experienced diver who was diving with twins but did not have any manifold on them, i.e. each cylinder had a first stage with a primary and an SPG. One cylinder had the low pressure inflator for his BC. What are the pros and cons of a manifold setup versus independent twins?

I’ve had a Seavision full prescription bifocal mask for over ten years which has served perfectly. It wasn’t cheap but has been a great value.

Hey Mark, I think this needs to be a series, just masks all the time. I loved hearing about different masks. I’ve been using the same basic $$ scuba pro for the last 5 years and curious to try something a bit more pricey. I would love regular mask education.

but but but none of them come in a purple glitter color to match my new fins ! Ha Ha Ha .. 40 years ago we got to choose from one of 5 black masks at the local dive shop ! these days the shops carry 50 or more different mask ! AND you are not allowed to try them out and return them for an exchange or refund !

I’m still waiting for a mask with a wrap-around mask to give a 150 degree view or better…
I wonder why these mask companies are not putting research in a curve glass or plastic lens..?

They did try it. However, when you put a curved lens underwater it acts like a magnifying lens and distorts your vision. Flat lenses are the way to go and you’ll see panorama masks with extra flat panels on the sides to widen your FOV

A good mask, not everybody’s style but, UV filtering lenses, ability to disassemble and elastic strap are all great features.

Love my OMS Tattoo mask! Perfect for Asian faces.

The OMS Tattoo is worth consideration, it’s by far my favorite mask. As someone who has gone through countless masks trying to find one that doesn’t leak, this one does the job. Frameless, super low volume, great soft silicone, pretty indestructible. In addition to several colors, it comes in a cool frosted clear silicone as well. And in the event it does leak or flood, it’s so low volume that it clears in half an exhale.

Best Mask is the one that fits, do not goto just one store, visit many. I have used a lot of masks, few fit perfect. My Atomic Subframe sits in the bag, while my $25 Edge/Hog Stealth Frameless enjoys the dive. My son been using a $30 Tusa for 10 years. The daughter and her dimples actually need the expensive Atomic Frameless, but fit fits her great.

Can’t beat Tusa .

I recently swapped out my Tusa Ceos for the Tusa Intega. I found the Ceos was great for warm waters but a bit too soft and ‘foldy’ when wearing a thick hood in cold waters. The bifocal lenses in both are great.

I almost bought intega but choose tusa ceos because perfect for my small face and my asian small nose. I’ve always had equalizing issues and its easiy to do it with this mask but the negative side from this mask is easily fog and little leak around nose.

tired of of sales pitch you apparently has been force to do for Mares and Cressi that is unfortunate departure from previous style of narration. very unfortunate, hope your patrons reverse this BS hard sale approach

Hi Marc, there is one question rather about prescription lenses than about the mask-body” in itself… im looking for a “two lens model” like the tusa ceos, or the hollis m3…
I heard now completely contrary recommendations about stepping up or down with the optical lenses from my normal glasses. As the optional optical glasses use to step up and down in 0.5 steps – what do you suggest for my actual measured -2.25 ? Would you suggest to step up to -2.5, or down to-2.0

Thank you very much for your advice (and for the many other information I already got from your videos)

with best regards from Berlin,
Holger

I used to order prescription lenses through my dive shop, to be honest we took the customers prescription and sent it off to a chap who had been making them for many years. I can’t tell you if he just followed the prescription or made adjustments, but i can say we never had any complaints.. As far as i know i’d leave them at -2.25

The best mask is the mask that really fits YOUR face. My wife rates her Scubapro Synergy Twin as the best and most comfortable mask she’s ever had. For me personally, it’s 1. XDeep Radical and 2. Scubapro Frameless. Both are mid-range priced, super comfortable, fog-free and with a perfect seal. The latter comes (just like the Gorilla) with that old-school squared look that I like. These masks may be terrible choices for other divers but for me…perfect!

Absolutely what fits you. I have a synergy twin and it doesn’t make a great seal. The scuba pro frameless that cost $80 less works much better on my face shape.

I found the synergy twin at the bottom of a lake so I’m not chuffed about it not making a great seal. 🤣
