#askMark great video as always. Can I ask what the pros & cons of a self inflating smb are please Thanks 🙏
Yeah, the benefits are that it’s a completely self sufficient unit which makes it very quick and easy to deploy.
You shouldn’t get a half-fill that flops over on the surface because the volume inside the cylinder should far exceed the volume of the buoy.
The downsides are the cost, they’re far more expensive than a standard dSMB.
You need to remember to re-fill them between dives.
They’re quite large to pack and store somewhere on you during a dive.
There is a small chance that the valve may open during the dive and inflate the buoy accidentally.
And most of the small cylinders do not require regular inspections and you don’t know what the state of the inside is like. Which is a red flag for me for a cylinder that drains until empty in the ocean…
Thanks Mark
Also don’t forget that you probably won’t be allowed to take it on a plane or airport so not much use if you go abroad
☹️ Please dont kill animals…
Agree, with the exception off harmful invasive species. Lionfish out of their natural habitat are a severe threat to the ecosystem and should be decimated as much as possible, even while scuba diving. Otherwise, I really prefer to behave as a guest under water rather than a predator.
As Mark touched on in the beginning, it’s the most ethical sea food you can have
Must kill before you grill. Otherwise it would cruel .
