Thanks again for all the information you constantly provide the community

Hi Mark, do you know if the Apeks DSX marked the entry point automatically or like the garmin mk2i you have to press a button to register it please
So I have a new DSX and Apeks transmitters and a couple of dives done now.
There’s a few nuances that’s bound to crop up:
After setting up the transmitters, you also need to go into another menu & set up the gas associated with each transmitter, or they won’t appear on the main screen.
Secondly & quite annoyingly, the DiveLog+ App for Windows doesn’t support this DC, which means you’re stuck with limited functionality on the Android or IOS App. This means you can’t import or export dives!
Hopefully someone in Pelagic will pick this mistake up & fix it!
#askmark I am about to purchase a cannister lamp to enable me to have both hands free whilst wreck diving. I wonder if you might have any advice on mounting the cannister on a single tank, axiom bcd method and more importantly how to route the umbilical so as to stay streamlined and it not become a snag hazard? Thankyou
You need to be able to reach the switch wherever you mount it if the switch is on the canister so, you may need an extra cam band to clamp it to your single. The light head should go on your left hand so your right hand is free to donate gas and the cable can’t trap your alternate or octo.
I’ve read some divers pass it over their shoulder, others under. Some wrap the cable around their arm to take up slack. It’s up to what works best for you as long as you can always reach for and donate to an out of air buddy
The O2 analyser has been available on the Ratio range of dive computers for a few years now.
It is just a shame the prices seem to have gone up on them in the last few years as they were a bargain in the past
#AskMark Love the videos! What would your recommendations be for a beginner bpw?
Steel backplates are good for adding weight close to your body and you can take some off your weightbelt. Aluminium are better for travel. I do like XDEEP’s NX backplate for the ergonomics and harness setup.
For an all rounder bladder for single cylinders I’d look for something with around 30lbs of lift.
Harnesses, I don’t like anything with too much stitching. As soon as one part is stitched to the webbing you can’t swap it or fit anything else to that section.
There are plenty of complete kits available, all you need to do is adjust the harness to your size and shape and you’re good to go. I’ll elaborate more in the video
@Scuba Diver Magazine and also would you suggest getting a BC or regs first after mask, fins, snorkel, and computer
Thank you so much mark! And to everyone who commented confirming it connects with the swift 😊 time to fire away on a purchase 😁
😎👍🤿❤️!
Yes, I got one of the very few our dive shop received. It DOES pair with the swift. Have a couple of dives on it, and can confirm it does work.
Divesoft Freedom can also be equipped with O2 sensor accessory and the Ratio IX3M
I got one for Christmas. Not had a chance to get it wet yet but seems really simple to use for something packed with so many features.
Just got mine today!! The fact that you control the settings from your phones app is worth it alone…. Love it so far! Cant wait for yalls review!
#askmark I am about to start a Diving internship that will last about a year to become an instructor and I haven’t been able to decide on a dive computer computer. I am looking for a watch style. I have had some recommendations from a friend I have that is an Instructor and I am currently trying to decide between the Suunto D6i, and the D5. Sheerwater is a little out of my price range and I don’t have access to Cressi. Which would you recommend? I am open to other recommendations. Thanks!
Also 2 other considerations of mine are the scuba pro aladin a2 and the aqualung i470TC
I’ll throw an extra consideration at you with the Garmin Descent G2. Only because it is packed with lots of extra features like Heart rate monitor, GPS and much more than most other dive computers and the solar version recharges itself in the sun…
As far as the computers you’ve listed, I used the D6i for a few seasons teaching and it’s a good solid dive computer. I found it very easy to use and it had everything that I needed. I also used a D5 for a few weeks, it has a nicer colour screen and some more surface features than the D6i at the cost of battery time. If you run it at full brightness you need to top it up often, especially if you’re diving every day.
I’d stick to those 3 choices and decide which suits your lifestyle best, any of those 3 and you’ll be happy. But, I would definitely recommend you take a look at some of the Garmin computers before making your choice.
@Scuba Diver Magazine Thank you. I will definitely have a look at the Garmin descent. Now knowing thet whichever of the 3 I pick will be a good choice. Thanks again
2:33 another computer that does the same thing is Divesoft Freedom
The DSX is inofficially confirmed by divers to be able to be paired with any MH8A transmitter (and the Shearwater Swift which is basically a MH8A too).
Mark, I have a Shearwater Perdix and have gotten different advice on my Swift transmitter. I have seen videos that recommend attaching the transmitter with a HP short hose but other divers and my dive shop said I really don’t need that. Struggling on which way to go, so far I have just used it attached direct to my first stage.
@Bill Scott I’ve had my Perdix/Teric transmitter directly connected to my first stage for 4 1/2 years. No issues at all.
@Bill Scott I attach mine with a really short hose, it’s just to reduce the chances of the transmitter getting damaged if say if my gear was knocked over or when I lay it down or when it’s being pulled on to a rhib from the water.
