Here’s a way for scuba beginners to hit the water with a bang – PADI Open Water Diver certification can be combined with a liveaboard trip with Carpe Diem Maldives for one week from 1 July or another from 26 August next year, and moving from reef to reef while training is expected to provide an inspirational start to any diving career.
Each trip will be dedicated to 20 travellers looking to get dive-qualified. It starts in the capital Male, moves from shallow to deeper reefs, and ends in celebrated Baa Atoll in the north with (we hope) celebratory 20m dives.
A snorkelling visit to witness the annual manta-ray migration in Hanifaru Bay could provide a further climax to each trip. Diving is from the liveaboard’s dhoni.
The Learn to Dive trips are priced from US $2363pp and include full board, training and certification, and basic equipment including computer.
Flights and the seaplane transfer back to Male are not included but can be arranged by Carpe Diem.
The trip can also be combined with a resort stay in Raa Atoll at the new Carpe Diem Beach Resort and Spa (opening July) with three complimentary dives included in a full-board package.
Prices start at $450 per night for solo travellers in a shared villa.
