UK-based Dive Safari Asia has come up with an unusual group tour that combines remote diving off Sumbawa Island in eastern Indonesia with a cultural side-trip to Java.
Kalimaya Resort offers muck-, reef- and drift-diving and is the first dedicated dive resort in East Sumbawa and the only dive-operator offering day trips to West Komodo Island, Gili Banta and Sangeang Volcano (see Sumbawa in September’s DIVER).
Divers can anticipate unlimited house-reef diving and 18 dives on reef slopes, sea-mounts, walls, pinnacles and caverns.
The tours start on 5 May and 13 October, escorted by underwater photographer ‘Duxy’ Duxfield.
The 10-night trip includes a half-day Komodo dragon experience and is followed by three days on land in Java, visiting UNESCO Heritage sites such as the Borobodur and Prambanan temples, the Royal Ballet and Jogjakarta City.
With all internal transfers, the tour costs £3216pp (two sharing). International flights cost extra, at around £550-700.
