Dubbed the “Galapagos of the Atlantic” (there are several “Galapagos of’s” around the world!), the remote island of St Helena offers one of the world’s last remaining pristine diving locations, says Dive Worldwide.
Until recently, the island could be reached only by postal ship, making it expensive and inaccessible, but the advent of a new flight service from Johannesburg in South Africa has opened up new diving possibilities.
There are more than 750 species of marine life to discover, says the tour operator, and of particular interest are likely to be aggregations of whale sharks between December and March each year, and wrecks such as the galley pictured.
The “Untouched St Helena” package starts from £2795pp including eight nights’ accommodation (two sharing), transfers, a 10-dive package and return flights from the UK.
