If you have recorded your diving adventures off north-eastern Spain, Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca or the wider Mediterranean Sea region in recent years, you might like to follow up on a call for entries to MARE FOTO 26. This photography competition was conceived to support conservation in the Balearic Sea and is now in its seventh year.

MARE FOTO invites photographers of any age, level and origin to reveal “the beauty, richness and fragility of the Balearic Sea and the Mediterranean through images that inspire knowledge, awareness and action”. There are 10,000 euros-worth of prizes to win in the form of underwater equipment as well as cash.

Entries are considered under three “participation profiles”: Adult Expert, Adult Amateur and Youth (under-16).

There are six main categories: MARE Animalia (marine animals); MARE Botanica (marine plants); MARE Sapiens (people and the sea); MARE Denuntiare (environmental problems); MARE Nostrum (‘Our Sea’ storytelling) and MARE Popularis (the public award, chosen by online public voting).

There are also two special categories each offering three honourable mentions: Protected Marine Areas and a section entitled Joan Pereyra: The Little Things (named after an Ibizan macro photographer).

Competitors can submit up to 20 Balearic- or wider Mediterranean-related digital photos but they must have been taken in the past five years and not have been previously submitted to MARE FOTO. The experts judging them will be Isabel Diez, Carolina Wells and Juan Carlos Calvin.

Registration is free for under-18s and members of certain local dive-centres and associations, otherwise it costs 10 euros. Entries will be accepted until and including 15 September via the competition website.
