Dealing with cancer, and its aftermath, can be incredibly demanding, and just surviving the terrible disease is only the beginning. Leo Morales lost a leg to a very aggressive form of cancer, and found that scuba diving helped him overcome his subsequent depression. Not only that, but he has managed to break diving world records along the way.
Now a new biography, Dive-abled: The Leo Morales Story, details his incredible story of inner strength, perseverance and sheer willpower.
Written by Eric Douglas – the author behind the Mike Scott diving thriller series – the book (launched at the DEMA trade show in Orlando this week) follows Leo’s life as he loses his leg to the cancer, tumbles into depression, and then finds scuba diving as a life-saving outlet.
The inspirational diver – who is a PADI Ambassadiver – holds two world records for a disabled diver. He has dived to a depth of 122m, and has swum more than 9.3 miles underwater across the Cozumel Marine Park without surfacing. He has a third record in his sights in 2018.
