Start Your Divemaster Journey Online Now
PADI eLearning allows you to first work through the theory components of the Divemaster course online – from home, at your own pace, and around whatever other existing commitments you have. Then, you can connect at any time with a PADI Dive Center or Resort to complete your in-water training. You’ll also have access to an online version of the Divemaster Manual for reference during and after the course. With our easy-to-use interactive program, this is online scuba training at it’s finest!
Completing the PADI Divemaster Course
In order to become a PADI Divemaster, you’ll need to be at least 18 years old, a PADI Rescue Diver with an Emergency First Response certificate dated within the last 24 months, have 40 logged dives, and a medical statement signed by a physician in the last 12 months.
Once you’ve completed the knowledge development portion of the course (available via eLearning), you can use our Dive Shop Locator to find a PADI Dive Center or Resort in your local area to complete the rest of the Divemaster course with a PADI Instructor. Through in-water training sessions and hands-on practical assessments, you’ll develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of scuba diving activities. Practical sessions can often be completed over weekends, giving added flexibility.

Once you’ve completed your PADI Divemaster course, you’ll likely feel a well-deserved sense of achievement, self-confidence, and success. As a PADI Divemaster, you’ll have the skills to map dive sites, conduct dive briefings, and safely guide divers as you explore the underwater world. As a dive leader, you’ll also be uniquely positioned to model responsible diving practices and encourage others to seek adventure and save the ocean.
If you’re looking to utilize your Divemaster certification as an added revenue stream, you can work as a part-time Divemaster at a local PADI Dive Center or Resort to supplement your income. You’ll even be qualified to conduct some courses without a PADI Instructor (such as PADI ReActivate, PADI Discover Local Diving, and PADI Skin Diver), as well as guide already certified divers around local dive sites.
Working as a PADI Divemaster can also be the first step towards a professional career in diving – becoming a PADI Pro. For many, the Divemaster certification enables them to earn additional money on the side, while exploring the option of making the ocean their full-time office as a PADI Instructor.
