Underwater photographer Justin Lutsky and model/mermaid Abbey Blake bring the magic of the deep to life, and they’ll be revealing their secrets at the Long Beach Scuba Show in May.
Justin, a world-class underwater photographer and cinematographer, and Abbey, a professional mermaid and freediver known as ‘The Everyday Mermaid’, joined forces to create Submerge. Together, they travel the globe – from crystal-clear springs to the open ocean – to capture stunning imagery and lead world-class workshops. Whether they are training new talent or producing cinematic content for major brands, their mission is simple: to inspire curiosity for the underwater world through a perfect blend of technical skill and artistic grace.
At the Long Beach Scuba Show on the UW Imaging Stage, Justin and Abbey will present an exploration of underwater portrait photography. The presentation will delve into the unique challenges and specialized techniques required to capture breathtaking images of models beneath the water’s surface.
They will discuss topics such as lighting, buoyancy control, working with safety divers, and interacting with marine life. Drawing from their extensive experience, they will share invaluable insights and tips for creating captivating underwater portraits that showcase both the subject’s essence and the beauty of the underwater environment.

Long Beach Scuba Show
The Long Beach Scuba Show, this year sponsored by Divers Alert Network, is celebrating its 39th anniversary in 2026 (30-31 May), and it represents the first show under the banner of new owners Rork Media Limited, which also runs the GO Diving Shows in the UK and Australia, and publishes the global-multi-edition Scuba Diver magazine, as well as being behind the Scuba Diver Magazine YouTube Channel, and long-established website Divernet.
