The unique marine life beneath Seaventures Dive Rig

Across the globe, there are experiences that are truly idiosyncratic and unparalleled to any other. No words speak truer than the Seaventures Dive Rig.

This world-class diving experience is located at the heart of the Coral Triangle, off the east coast of Sabah, Malaysia. The oil rig was designed for deep-sea oil drilling in the Celebes Sea but was later decommissioned and transitioned into a scuba diving resort offering access to some of the best diving locations in the world, like Mabul, Sipadan and Kapalai Island. We’ve previously written an overview of the Seaventures Dive Rig – a well-worth read!

However, what lies beneath the shelter of this oil rig lies a haven where man-made and natural structures amalgamate to create a biodiverse ecosystem. As divers begin to descend down towards the bottom, they’ll encounter schools of batfish, trumpetfish, fusiliers, bannerfish, and snapper that gracefully wander around the oil rig pylons. Once you reach the bottom of the seafloor, divers can explore the numerous artificial reefs that are home to giant groupers, turtles, moray eels and crocodile fish; as well as macro critters like flamboyant cuttlefish, harlequin shrimp, ribbon eels, hairy shrimp, pygmy squid and an abundance of photogenic nudibranchs.
