A diving instructor in Taiwan has been sentenced for secretly filming a woman taking a shower at the dive-centre where he worked – and then trying to destroy the evidence by swallowing his camera’s memory card.
Wu Kuang-liang had filmed the woman covertly from an adjacent shower-stall at the dive-shop where he worked in Hengchun Township, a judge at Pingtung District Court heard.
The Hengchun Peninsula is a popular area for diving in the far south of Taiwan and one of the few that operates year-round, supporting a number of dive-centres.

Suddenly realising what was happening, the woman had screamed, according to a report in the Taipei Times. At this point Wu had quickly removed the SD card from his camera, bit it into fragments and swallowed them.
The police were called, seized the camera and later retrieved the pieces of memory card after they had passed naturally through the instructor’s body. At this point he had admitted to the crime, and the dive-centre owner, who had given the police access to the shop’s surveillance footage, fired him.
Wu was found guilty of invading the woman’s rights to sexual privacy, causing her emotional distress and trauma. The maximum sentence was a three-year prison term but he was given four months – and then permitted to pay a fine in lieu of incarceration.
