A diving instructor has been jailed for two years in South Korea for sexually molesting a female tourist during an underwater training session.

Gwangju High Court found the instructor guilty of touching the victim’s breasts while diving off the southern island of Jeju in April 2017, according to the country’s longest-established English-language newspaper, the Korea Times.

The court was told that the instructor, who was not named but was 19 years old at the time, touched each side of the woman’s breasts six times during their dive.

The trainee said she had felt she could not challenge the instructor’s actions because her life depended on him at the time.

The court heard her claim that she had been traumatised by the experience and had required medical treatment for two months afterwards.

The instructor, who had claimed that he was merely guiding his student, was ordered to undergo 40 hours of treatment for sex offenders as part of his sentence.
