Volivoli Beach Resort, Fiji’s Premier Diver Resort, is fortunate enough to be situated right on the edge of the Bligh Water and their in-house dive operation, Ra Divers Fiji, dive these remarkable waters 365-days a year, and in 2020 we are celebrating ‘Diving the Bligh’ for 30-years. With seven different regions and over eighty dive sites on our ‘dive menu’ to choose from, picking just one is always a tough ask however wherever we venture you really can’t go wrong.
Today we are going on a journey to explore Cannibal’s Cave, this site is situated along Vatulaca Reef, a short 10 to 12-minute boat ride from Volivoli Beach Resort is one of our modern purpose-built dive boats powered by twin 300-hp Suzuki engines. Cannibal’s Cave is best dived on an incoming tide, it is right on the point of the main reef at Nananu Passage with an assortment of swim-throughs and an array of caves.
There is always lots of fish action schooling around both in the deeper water as well as near the top of the reef itself. Cannibal’s Cave starts at 3m/10’ drops off to around 30m/100’ and is a perfect site for multilevel diving to get the most of your bottom time. It is not unusual for divers to see spotted sweet lips, schooling red bass, chevron barracuda, sea turtles, reef sharks, trevally, octopus as well as many dives worth of macro creatures including ghost pipefish, banded pipefish, popcorn shrimp and of course countless nudibranch and anemone fish making this site their home.
Our experienced local guides are always on-hand and excited to point out those marvellous inhabitants of our wonderful backyard. Being in the Bligh Water of course, just like the majority of sites the reef itself is adorned with an abundance of healthy and vibrant soft coral in a kaleidoscope of mind-blowing colours.
