Mexico-based BSAC Premier Centre Underworld will be staging its first-ever CaveFest for BSAC members and clubs at its Tulum base between 12-26 August 2017.
Located on the Rivera Maya, Tulum is a divers’ cave and cavern ‘paradise’, with hundreds of systems – including nine of longest underwater caves on earth – starting just a short drive from the beach-side town.
Supported by BSAC, Cavefest has a packed two-week itinerary offering guided dives and training courses – including BSAC’s twinset and ADP courses – equipment workshops and try dives, plus a lively programme of social events and presentations. For non-diving days, there are some fascinating Mayan ruins and nature reserves in Tulum, along with some great bars and restaurants.
Centre owner and BSAC Instructor Lanny Vogel hopes the event will introduce the thrill of Mexico’s cave and cavern diving to even more BSAC members.
“Cavefest will offer BSAC divers the chance to experience a very different and challenging type of diving in some truly beautiful caves and caverns. It is the perfect opportunity to either try something new or consolidate your existing skills while diving some of the best systems in the world.”
Underworld is Mexico’s only BSAC centre and the team are providing a Cavefest deal for members. Open to Sports Divers and above and the Cavefest fortnight costs £649 (excluding flights, meals and dive training). For those BSAC Divers who can’t make the first CaveFest, organisers are planning to make this an annual event. Underworld can also help with bespoke trips for BSAC clubs at other times of the year.

Sounds a great idea Lanny but the BSAC does’t have any cave diving courses and the last time I contacted the BSAC technical team there were no plans to introduce any cave or cavern diivng courses anytime soon. I wonder if they do will they follow the same protocals as the rest of the cave diving agencies and could it means a change to BSACs reluctance to teach the hog loop used by just about everyother technical diving agency?
