This image of a feeding nudibranch off the coast of north Wales was taken by the overall winner of the Northern Underwater Photography Group 2018 Splash-In competition, held on 4 August.

The photographer was Yo-Han Cha, the NUPG’s Chairman, who also won the Close-Up category.

Winner of the other category, Wide Angle, with a backlit jellyfish shot was Glynn Philips, who also won the Newcomer trophy with a skeleton shrimp close-up.

Competitors in the on-the-day contest could elect to dive anywhere off the coast from shore or from a boat but had to get their memory cards back to the Belle Vue Hotel in Bangor to be judged by fellow-entrants in the evening.

The NUPG acknowledged that there had been a low turn-out of divers but hoped that this would improve next year. It says that it is open to all underwater photographers – details here.
