Dead ‘diver' in Thailand was American

Police in Pattaya, Thailand have identified the “diver” whose body was found tied to a concrete post off the island of Koh Lan as American Frank Thomas Kech, 52.

The man had been found with his throat cut on 16 December, as reported on Divernet. He was wearing a wetsuit and fins and wearing a backpack, by which he was attached to the post.

Police divers recovered a box-cutter, snorkel, swimming cap and goggles from the seabed near the base of the post.

Kech had arrived in Thailand on a since-renewed tourist visa in 2013 and had been living in Bangkok with his Thai wife, who had not accompanied him to Pattaya.

Police said that he had been spear-fishing off Samae Beach, where he was found, and that his death was likely to have been a case of suicide.
