Police in Pattaya, Thailand have identified the “diver” whose body was found tied to a concrete post off the island of Koh Lan as American Frank Thomas Kech, 52.
The man had been found with his throat cut on 16 December. He was wearing a wetsuit and fins and wearing a backpack, by which he was attached to the post.
Police divers recovered a box-cutter, snorkel, swimming cap and goggles from the seabed near the base of the post.
Kech had arrived in Thailand on a since-renewed tourist visa in 2013 and had been living in Bangkok with his Thai wife, who had not accompanied him to Pattaya.
Police said that he had been spear-fishing off Samae Beach, where he was found, and that his death was likely to have been a case of suicide.
