Luke Evans continues his Divemaster journey, and gets more briefing/guiding experience under his belt, especially after moving up to the larger Big Buddy boat at Buddy Dive Resort.
Day Five
For the start of day five, I was on one of the boats again, but this time the much-larger Big Buddy – hence the name! – which meant more people and slightly more preparation. I was again guiding these dives, so had to give a boat briefing on the dock about the safety features of the vessel, as well as the dive briefing, but the underwater guiding was the highlight, pointing things out to guests and doing head counts of the group now and then – all very immersive.
For these dives we again went to the island of Klein Bonaire for our dives where we first dived Ebo’s Special as there was a local nurse shark that lived in the shallow caves at the site, which was fun to look for and point out to the guests. As for the second dive we travelled to the south of Klein to dive South Bay, which was also a very lively and colourful reef with lots of turtles to spot.
After I came back off the boat, I had nothing to do for the rest of the day apart from some homework to research and write my own emergency action plan for one of the Buddy dive boats, but after this I decided to go to the shops for even more food and drinks. Then after a few drinks in Blennies with the IDC candidates, it was the end of day five…

Day Six
Friday was my first ‘day off’, which I started off by booking onto the morning boat, which meant I could do some fun dives rather than work. This also meant I was able to bring my camera, which was a nice relaxing change.
After the two boat dives and seeing some turtles and a rare Goliath grouper, I headed back to my room, got changed and went for some lunch and some drinks as I had no more diving for the rest of the day. I then did some writing for the previous day and called it a night with some drinks in the bar.
