Italian diving-equipment manufacturer Mares has moved into the closed-circuit rebreather market with the purchase of Belgian CCR maker rEvo.
The company says the move will complete its XR line of extended-range products, designed for advanced and technical divers.
Mares states its objective as broadening the rebreather community by making rebreathers more affordable while maintaining their quality and performance. It is following in the footsteps of APD, Poseidon and Hollis in aiming to bring rebreather use further into the diving mainstream.
rEvo, which started out in 2007, makes Standard, Mini and Micro variations of its rEvo III model, with recommended retail prices from 4180 euros for a basic unit. The manufacturer will continue to market and sell the rebreathers, says Mares, which plans to support it using its own research & development, manufacturing and distribution facilities.
“Both rEvo and Mares are driven by innovation and technology,” said rEvo MD Paul Raymaekers. “We are convinced that this acquisition will be a game-changer to bring rEvo and rebreather-diving to a whole new level.”
