Mark Evans: At first glance, the D710V looks very much the same as its siblings, the D710 and the DC710, however that ‘V’ gives away its true purpose – as a professional video light rather than a straightforward dive light.
However, this is not just your standard 120 degree wide flood beam torch. Thanks to a nifty bit of design in the head, it can offer three light sources – neutral white, red, and UV – in one compact unit.
The white beam can be operated in two settings – high, which gives 2,000 lumens for one hour and 30 minutes, or low, which gives 600 lumens for over three hours.
The 125 lumen red light, which is ideal for night diving and filming more-sensitive subjects, has a burntime of four hours and 30 minutes.
The UV light for fluorescent night diving, with 2.5 lumens, offers a runtime of six hours and 40 minutes.
Like its siblings, it is made from the same corrosion-resistant, durable hard-anodized aluminium and toughened glass, it is depth-rated to 150m, and it has the same compact size.
Again, as with the D710 and DC710, all of the settings are cycled through by pressing the titanium button on the side. You can even ‘lock’ the torch into shutdown state to prevent accidental activation while in transport. This button even features an LED power indicator – green shows over 30 percent charge, red is between ten to 30 percent charge, and flashing red means you have less than ten percent charge remaining. This button is easy to locate and operate even in cold water wearing thick neoprene gloves.
The D710V comes complete with a ZJ18 bracket, which snugly fits around the body of the dive light and has a ball joint that will fit into most arm clamps. It also comes in a zippered case, with a lanyard, spare O-rings, 5,000mAh battery with USB-C charging port, and a charging cable.
The D710V will partner perfectly with OrcaTorch’s handle (ZJ12), clamp (ZJ13) and tray (Mini ZJ17) designed for a GoPro or other action camera, creating a very compact but perfectly manageable system on which to shoot video while diving. Ideal for the travelling diver who is tight on weight allowance!
