Christmas starts early at Vobster
Dive in red and the emergency services stand to benefit, as Vobster Quay’s festive fund-raising Santa Dive returns on Sunday, 16 December. The Somerset inland dive-centre is already starting to mobilise Father Christmas volunteers in the hope of breaking another mass-dive record.
The annual event, which Vobster describes as the “swan-song” before the Christmas and New Year break, involves divers of all qualification levels. It has been going for more than 10 years, and in 2015 set a world record that still stands, when 188 Santas took to the water together.

Last year just over 150 Santas took the plunge, so Vobster is hoping to boost the numbers in 2018.
Its early warning is intended to do just that, but also to give participating divers plenty of time to register and collect money through individual sponsorship and JustGiving donations.
Over the years, Vobster Santas have collected more than £35,000 for the RNLI. This year they will also be raising money for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, with a raffle of prizes donated by dive-equipment suppliers.

£1 raffle tickets will be available on the day or can be bought in advance from the Vobster Quay shop.
