Borneo Divers Mabul Resort Delightfully Enlarged and Upgraded
Borneo Divers Mabul Resort (Borneo Divers), a pioneer dive operator of Sipadan Island, globally known as one of the top ten dive destinations on the planet has been tastefully enlarged and upgraded. There are now 62 units of spanking new, spacious and rustic Luxury Villa Rooms, 30 upgraded units of Executive Beach Chalets, 15 new Standard Rooms and another 4 new Suite Rooms that are coming up soon.
The resort amenities have been comprehensively added with guest comfort and fun in mind. For those not opting for a day of island-hopping and diving, a free-form ocean-facing pool has been created for those looking for a lazy or contemplative day back at the cosy resort with many matured ‘ketapang’ trees. Experience total relaxation at the newly upgraded main dining area and all-wood dining area with soft lighting and a soothing ambience for guests to relax and enjoy their meals.
Aside from the ocean activities, new resort features have been implemented such as a gym, KTV, children’s playroom, leisure rooms to cater for table soccer, table tennis and other indoor games, and lastly a fully-carpeted function hall and massage room.
The upgrading of diving-related features was a key focus. The Dive Station has been improved; ranging from more comfort to new toilets in the Dive Station area. A new classroom for conducting theory lessons for PADI dive courses and now the resort is able to offer high-quality Nitrox/Enriched Air to the Nitrox certified divers with the Bauer B-Trox Membrane System, designed to comply with the strictest standard.
After an adrenaline-filled adventure, many divers come and relax at the new crown jewel of the resort – the Jetty Bar. Imagine sipping cold beers and digging into BBQ chicken drumsticks surrounded by marine life and coral. A perfect day’s end to indulge in paradise!
At Borneo Divers Mabul Resort, voluntary stewardship in the conservation area is continued. As the main sponsor for annual turtle conservation events like Mabul World Turtle Day (May) and Borneo Divers’ Celebration of Sea Turtles (November), the resort participates in active conservation with turtles via an in-house turtle hatchery program. It is here in Sabah’s waters that host four of the seven species of Marine Turtles; Hawksbill, Green Turtle, Leatherback and the Loggerhead.
In collaboration with the University of Malaysia Sabah, a project to save and conserve the resident sea turtle population in the waters of Mabul and other surrounding islands has been implemented. The collaboration is centred on a CARE concept – Conservation & Awareness / Research & Education.

In the meantime, as borders reopen, the shoals of barracuda, green and hawksbill turtles, sharks (from solo white-tip reef sharks cruising the wall to grey reef sharks hunting in the deeper plateaus) and macro-life, from nudibranchs and hairy-squat lobsters to lionfish and moray eels awaits your viewing pleasure at the iconic Sipadan. Mr Clement Lee who had recently made a few dives at Sipadan commented, “They are all here, the Barracuda, the Jackfish, the Bump head Parrot fish, the sharks and the turtles (the Big Five) just like what I had seen in 40 years ago when we first landed in Sipadan. Corals are teeming with fish and visibility is as good as ever.
Sipadan is still our iconic island and remains our underwater aquarium! The increasing number of turtles in Mabul is surely an indication that the conservation and education efforts are paying off positively. Along with the likes of critters, Mabul remains as a Mecca of macro heaven.”
