Underwater explorer, writer, photographer, speaker and film-maker Jill Heinerth will be taking to the Main Stage at the GO Diving Show ANZ in Sydney in September, when she will be discussing the filming of the new documentary Diving into the Darkness, which will also be shown at the event.
Acclaimed director Nays Baghai will also be appearing on stage at the GO Diving Show ANZ.
A pioneer of technical rebreather diving, Jill is the first Explorer-In-Residence of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society. Her best-selling autobiography, Into The Planet, has been lauded by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Oprah Magazine.
She is a Fellow of the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame, Women Diver’s Hall of Fame, the Explorer’s Club and Underwater Academy Of Arts and Sciences. Her images have been showcased by the BBC, National Geographic, Red Bull, Canadian Geographic, Discovery, and many more.
Diving into the Darkness is an awe-inspiring odyssey about the cave diving icon, and her journey of exploration, resilience and self-discovery into the planet’s deepest depths.
She has been involved in the most legendary and demanding cave diving expeditions of all time, from surveying the world’s longest caves in Mexico to discovering giant iceberg caves in Antarctica.
Juxtaposed with these hair-raising dives are intimate, candid interviews and animated flashbacks to her younger years that reveal a complex array of motivations for taking on these challenges. Despite how over 100 of her friends have perished in the depths, for Jill, each adventure in this dive odyssey is one step closer to becoming the woman she wished she’d met when she was a child.
Jill will be joining the likes of tech diver and underwater photographer Pete Mesley, Hollywood stunt performer Liz Parkinson and fellow cave diving pioneer Dr Richard Harris on the Main Stage.
