Diving into the Darkness is an awe-inspiring odyssey about cave diving icon Jill Heinerth, and her journey of exploration, resilience and self-discovery into the planetโs deepest depths.
Canadian explorer and storyteller Jill Heinerth is one of the worldโs greatest living cave divers, fuelled by an insatiable curiosity to explore the unknown โveins of Mother Earthโ.
Jill has been involved in the most legendary and demanding cave diving expeditions of all time, from surveying the worldโs longest caves in Mexico to discovering giant iceberg caves in Antarctica.
Juxtaposed with these hair-raising dives are intimate, candid interviews and animated flashbacks to her younger years that reveal a complex array of motivations for taking on these challenges. Despite how over 100 of her friends have perished in the depths, for Jill, each adventure in this dive odyssey is one step closer to becoming the woman she wished sheโd met when she was a child.
Jill is an underwater explorer, writer, photographer, speaker and filmmaker. A pioneer of technical rebreather diving, Jill is the first Explorer-In-Residence of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society. Her best-selling autobiography, Into The Planet, has been lauded by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Oprah Magazine.
Jill is a Fellow of the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame, Women Diverโs Hall of Fame, the Explorerโs Club and Underwater Academy Of Arts and Sciences. Her images have been showcased by the BBC, National Geographic, Red Bull, Canadian Geographic, Discovery, and many more.
She will be taking to the Main Stage at the GO Diving Show Australia and New Zealand in Sydney in September, when she will be discussing the filming of Diving into the Darkness, which will also be shown at the event. Director Nays Baghai will also be appearing on stage at GO Diving Show ANZ.
Diving into the Darkness is premiering atย Santa Barbara International Film Festival on 10 February, with an exclusive Q&A to follow featuring Jill and Nays.
