A body has been recovered from the sea off Portland after a major air and sea search yesterday (28 August) for a missing diver.
The full-scale operation was scrambled on Bank Holiday Monday after the diver, believed to be in his 40s and from Hampshire, was reported missing around 10am.
All-weather lifeboats from RNLI stations in Exmouth, Weymouth and Swanage were involved in the extensive search some five miles south of Portland Bill, along with Coastguard helicopters and other vessels.
Sadly the search was called off after a body was found at 3.40pm. The man's next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.
