Two hundred and eighty divers from all over Cyprus have broken the Guinness record for the world’s longest underwater human chain.

The organisers had called for 200 volunteers to meet at Molos in the old port of Limassol on a Sunday morning at the start of October to take part in the attempt, but far more turned up as individuals and in groups. They all submerged holding onto a rope that was fastened to the dock, spending around 10 minutes at a depth of 5m.

The previous record was set by 173 divers on the Italian island of Elba last year.
